The past week has been uneventful. This is likely a good thing.

Cantorial classes have been moving at a hectic pace and I now have a LOT of pieces to work on. Last week I was given the completion of the Torah service including benching Rosh Chodesh, all of the Musaf service for both regular Shabbatot and Shabbat Rosh Chodesh as well as the beginning of the Mincha service for Shabbat. This week I am expecting to get the remainder of Mincha for Shabbat as well as all of the Maariv service, Havdalah and Hallel.

Next week I am hoping to start learning the High Holy Day services, starting with Musaf for Rosh Hashanah, and am very excited about that! I’ll let y’all know how things progress.

Today I had one of those “only in Israel” experiences. There were 2 radiators leaking a little, so we had the plumbers come over to fix them. While they were here they wanted to know how long I was here for and what I was doing. Once I told them that I was here to study Hazzanut they wanted a sample. Ultimately we spent the rest of the 2 hours they were here singing different melodies for prayers from Friday night, Shabbat and the High Holy Days, sometimes in 3-part harmony. It was a wonderful experience and was a lot of fun.
