Day 2 of the Ulpan was much easier than day 1. I guess it helps if you are not physically exhausted for class. We are done for the week as there are no classes on Friday through Sunday.
I took the bus in today to see what that was like. All I can say is that the drivers here are NUTS. Excessively aggressive would be a vast understatement. It seems that if there are more than 3 inches between you and the vehicle in front of you that it is an invitation to be cut off immediately. On top of that it is about a 30-minute walk but the bus took 50 minutes to get me there!
I walked back towards the apartment with a young woman from Germany. She was not raised Jewish, but apparently her grandmother and great-grandmother were Jewish. So was her mother, but she was not a practicing Jew. She is considering going through the conversion process and making Aliyah (moving to Israel).
I will try to get the stories behind some of the others in class as well. Since there is such diversity, the stories should prove interesting. It turns out that there is a gentleman from Switzerland in our class as well as the other countries I mentioned yesterday.
I just got a call from El Al Airlines. They will be delivering my lost suitcase in about 2 hours! This is a HUGE relief as all of my toiletries, all of my extra socks and extra pants are in there, not to mention coats, other clothing and miscellaneous items.
